Physical Characteristics
Apparent Age: 24
Actual Age: 27
Gender: Male
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 180lbs
Appearance: Samael towers over most people, with a tall build and shoulders that are a tad on the narrow side. He is thin, and there really doesn't look to be much to him, but he also very lean, with a little bit of muscle and a genereally strong grip. Though it's a tad hard to tell when he is wearing his clothes, he has a hint of a feminine shape to his hips - and while most men would be put off by this, he embraces it, and if he's feel a little on the playful side he might show it off by striking a more feminely pose and blowing a kiss or something equally disturbing at men that are likely to retaliate with violence or something similar.
All in all, his legs and arms are comparitively thin (when considering most other men), with a little bit of muscle throughout them - particularly in his legs as he tends to rely on his speed more than his strength, and so he does a lot of running and workouts to better hone this. He has somewhat large feet and hands, the latter of which are exceptionally rough from all of the hard labour he has done in the run of his life. His fingernails are nearly nonexistant, because he had a very bad habit of gnawing on them whenever something is bothering him or he is simply idle. As such he tends to have a bandaid or two over the tips of his fingers.
His skin used to be very pale, but because he spends so much of his time out and about, running around in the sunlight after criminals and the like, it has darkened quite a bit, but he is very obviously caucasion. The better part of his body is generally covered in clothing, aside his face, neck and hands, underwhich his skin is scarred, due to a battle that he was involved in some years ago (which nearly led to his death. He was even run through with sword, but he managed to survive. He did spend a great deal of time after that in hospital after hospital, though, receiving the medical care that he needed). Naturally, he is not ashamed of these either, he merely prefers to wear multiple layers of clothing (due to an incident as a rookie, when he had had a bit too much to drink. Long story short, he ended up streaking naked through a town. His superiors, though unsurprised, were not amused, and they depraced him of food for a week in order to teach him a lesson).
His black hair reaches to his chin, though it is surpringly well groomed as clearly he prefers to have a somewhat neat and together appearance. He has a cowlick in the front, square in the center, that causes a single loc of hair to sweep across his face, no matter how many times he fixes it. He finds it bothersome and is contantly blowing it out of his line of sight.
In truth, his clothing somewhat resembles that of a pirate, but he insists that he simpyl wears it because it is fashionable. Samael dons a white button up shirt with red trim, of which several buttons around his neck and one towards his wait is always undone (he claims it feels 'too restricting' otherwise), over which he wears a long, red coat that reaches to his knees and looks a tad on the expensive side. This heavy jacket has golden trim, both along the edges and round the button holes and deep pockets, as well as around the end of the sleeves. This jacket is always left undone, and when he's walking the back tends to flutter behind him slightly.
His pants are a dark grey, nearly black, with many thin, white vertical stripes flowing down them. Unlike his shirt, which looks fairly discheveled on the best of days, these appear firmly pressed and wrinkle free. They are held in place by a leather belt that is hidden under his shirt, which usually has a rapier attached to it. He's not really that good with a rapier, or even hand to hand combat, but he believes it looks 'classy' and so insists of having it with him. These pants are also tucked into a pair of large brown boots that are made of very sturdy leather, that reach up to his shins. They have a bit of gold trim as well, and he generally keeps them perfectly shined and clean (he's strangely suffy about this in particular)
Around his neck, hanging between the open collar of a shirt, in a somewhat girly looking heart shaped locket that is essentially his pride and joy when he is out at sea and away from his home. The trinket, though somewhat cheap looking, was given to him by his daughter, and he treasures it like it was made of the finest of goldd. If one were to pop open the locket, they would find a picture of himself and the girl. During quiet stretches at sea he can often be found on deck at night, leaning his back against the railing and staring longing at the picture, as though willing himself to keep moving forwards so that he can go home to see his child. He often shows the picture and locket around as well, because he is quite fond of it (and he tends to freak out if he can't find it when he wakes up in the morning).
His eyes are perhaps the only intimidating thing about him (height being a tad debateable). They are a shade of red that highly resembled crimson, and they are as keen as that of a hawk, sharp and alert. In spite of his personaliy he is surpringly aware of his surroundings, and his eyes can narrow in on the slightest of movements. Despite their odd coloring, they are usual soft, very kind and caring, but on the flip side, if he's angry... Well, they tend to look just a bit demonic.
Behavioral Characteristics
Personality: Samael is a laid back guy, who is never really strict or stern. He spends a lot of his time goofy off or socializing, and so his superiors are generally less than pleased with him - though he is undeniably a competent man, he merely masks it with his fool hardyness and a somewhat child like sense of niavety. He is a very friendly person, and will not hesitate to approach someone for conversation, be they human, giant, fishmen, anything, and he would speak to them as if he were conversing with an old friend, which naturally weirds out a lot of people that he encounters, but his intensions are good, he is merely a person that constantly craves a decent conversation. He is talkative, yes, but he is also a very good listener.
Samael is a little on the loud side, and he is not against hollering across a bar room, deck, or town in order to gain the attention of the person that he is interested in. This is usually followed by the frantic waving of both of his arms and a few loud, sharp whistles. Many people tend to simply ignore him or pretend they do not know him when he does this, but he is fairly persistant with it.
He loves to laugh, and he is a firm believer that a day without laughter is a day wasted. He also beleives that laughter is the best medicine, so he's constantly grinning like an idiot and trying to get others to do the same - particularly the more stern of the marines who want nothing to do to him. Nevertheless, he is not completely annoying and bothersome, rather he knows when to quit, and he can read the atmosphere enough to know when it's time to be serious - even if he does so begrudingly and has to force himself to try and look as serious as everyone else.
He is an incredibly kind and patient person, preferring to offer a hand to help rather than a hand to strike, which makes him a tad gullible and easy to deceive, but he generally does not fall for the same dirty trick more then once. Generally.
Unlike many marines, whom firmly believe that all pirates are evil and hell bent on destruction and all those other nasty things, Samael has a fairly open mind. He recognized that both good and evil can wear many masks, and that nothing is simply black and white. As such, he does not automatically make the assumption that all pirates he comes into contact with really deserved what happened to them, rather, he took the time to listen to them, to hear their stories and discover what turned them to this path - if they are at all willing to talk, that is.
His morals are pretty well rounded. He beleives that everyone, inspite of race, gender, or backgrounds, should be given a chance in life, equal oppoutinities. He is hopelessly idealistic when it comes to such things.
On top of everything else, he is generally very mild mannered, and he loves children. He's a good father, as well, and when he's not working he spends all the time that he can with his daugher, Riley. She is the most important thing in his life, and if she were to ask him to give up his job in the marines, then he would do so in a heart beat.
On the flip side, those that abuse children in particular tend to bring out the worst in him. Be it a man or woman, he acts mercilessly towards them, uncaring and heartless, because really, what sort of monster could hurt innocent children? Naturally, he feels this way about all people whom harm others, but, when it involves children in particular it tends to push him over the edge in a split second, and to be frank about it, the sudden change from his laid back demanour to one of pure rage is pretty scary...

Hometown: Some obscure little farmland in the Blues
History: Samael was born in a shabby little shack on an large patch of farmland, to a very poor and somewhat older couple that had thought themselves to be barren after years of trying to concieve. Naturally, he was a 'gift from the gods' that was very well received to the old couple, even if they were poor, they did everything they could to provide for their new child. He grew up in their humble home, surrounded by love. Both of the parents worked hard, of course, and while they were indeed somewhat older than the average couple to have their first child, their long days of hard work aged them even more quickly.
When he was around the age of four, walking, talking and getting into trouble, they began to give him small chores to do around their home, such as making the beds and cleaning the dishes. Simply things, that would teach him responsibility while also slightly lightening the work load for his weary parents. Over the course of the next couple of years, he began to gradually pick up more and more chores, and by the time that he was seven he was more or less doing all of the housework aside the cooking. Surprisingly, he never minded doing this work, and the only thing he asked for in return was to learn to read, write, etc, which his mother taught him every night by the fireplace. Additionally, he received his first bow at this age, and began to hunt for food with his father after being taught the basics.
Again, years passed and Samael began to branch from house work to field work, to help his ever aging father, whom had become crippled with age and hard work. He was ten, at this point, and doing more work than most people would do in a lifetime in hopes of aiding his family. Unfortunately, the years had done their damage, and his father died this year, leaving Samael and his broken hearted mother to keep things afloat. Two year later, at the age of twelve, this became even harder, due to the fact that larger farms were popping up nearby, owned by people with more money and manpower than they could afford. For three years the two struggled to keep their farm, but when Samael's mother died (from a 'broken heart' as she put it before passing), he tearfully decided to sell the farm, and make a new life for himself with the meager amount of money he made.
He spent about a year on his own, trying to make ends meet, before joining the marines in hoping to better mankind. Here he really began to hone his markmenship. Samael underwent harsh training to better himself, to make him stronger so that he would be useful to his superiors, and this was largely a success, being as obidient as he was.
The next few years were a blur to him. Much of Samael's time was spent either at sea or training, so he didn't have much of a life, but somehow he was not bothered by this. He was young, and he still had plenty of time to partake in the more frivilous things in life. At least, he believe this until he turned 22, and was injured in a rather large battle. It was nearly a fatal wound, and it would have been, had a kind nurse not given up so much of her time to mend him.
It was somewhat unintentional, but he fell in love with this young woman whom took care of him. They spend a great deal of time together, go out on a date or two while he is still on the mend, and before long, she is with child! He is overwhelmingly pleased with this, and though he does not notice, she does not seem to share these sentiments. When the child is born, after both the woman and the baby are released from the hospital, his first real love flees, leaving him a single father. He was broken hearted, but he also had a lovely baby girl that he named Riley whom ultimately became his reason for living.
He first took two years off of work that involved being out to sea in order to take care of the girl, living off of his salaries and such, making due as his parents did with him. He did desk work, mostly, with the baby propped in a comphy little basket alongside him on his desk, but decided to extend this to four years because he could not bare the thought of leaving her behind.
At the age of 26, he was not so subtly told that he was no longer need in his department, and that he was to be sent out to sea, and that he would be leaving his daughter behind for the first time (leaving his daughter with a close friend), for a potentially long period of time -which had him sulking like a baby for a long time. Six months passed, as did his birthday, and so by 27 he had landed himself in a bit of a predicament.
Samael had drawn a most unlucky straw. The superior that he was working under turned out to be something of a villian, whom would cheat, torture and all around bribe other people to get what he wanted. When it could not be achieved by these means, he would kill whomever was in his way. Naturally, a man such as Samael could not turn a blind eye to this. He intended to tel lthe higher ups what was struly going on, but his boss found out about this, quickly intervened and tried to kill him. A fight broke out, in which the other man died, and Samael was branded a tratior, forced to flee from the marines like those that he had arrested in the past.
This would not have been too bad on it's own, but upon returning to retrieve his daughter and hopefully flee for his life, he returned to find that his 'friend' as well as his daughter were gone! The house was a complete and utter mess, and all of their possessions were left behind, so he fears the worst. Nevertheless, he refuses to give up hope, and the entire reason for becoming a pirate is to hopefully run into his old friend and his daughter, whom were likely forced into hiding (or at least that's what he's hoping).
