Appearance: Preferring to dress simply, Ira can generally be spotted wearing some variation of a single outfit that she is very fond of, which consists of her favorite articles of clothing, a black thigh length jacket (which generally hangs open), the red knit scarf that she has had since the dawn of time (the scarf is large, hanging down to about the center of her back, and though it is not plainly obvious, it is also weighted slightly), and the heavy, sturdy black boots that reach up her shins. They were specifically made with her and mind, sturdy and durable, with a steel toe that more than one person had been on the receiving end of. Yet, they are very comfortable and not at all heavy, and so are likely her greatest treasures, though she is often mocked for it.
Beyond this, she wears a pair of faded blue jeans, which generally have a burn mark or two (or ten), tears in the fabric, places where they have merely worn out, and other such marring. Around her hips she wears a somewhat shiny white belt (with silver circles for decoration) to keep her pants secured (occasionally she also uses her belt as a place to hook her tools, especially when she is too busy to be constantly rummaging through her tool box. On her torso she simply dons white t-shirt that is absolutely not special in any way. Unlike her pants, it is generally clean and appears to be rather new.
When she is fighting, when simply wishes to hide whatever expression her lips are making, or even when she is simply walking about, she often has the fabric of her scarf pulled to cover her mouth, for reasons which she does not generally care to explain.
Ira is slightly above the average height of the run of the mill female, with a slim, though lean body. Her skin is pale, almost sickly so, though she is a perfectly fit girl - if anything her build is slightly athletic and her overall health is generally above average. She does not often get sick, and has a very strong immune system.
Ira's legs are long and slender, her body fairly shapely and well crafted. Her shoulders are narrow, though are often stiff with tension, even if she show no other signs of aggravation. Though her fingers are slender, her hands are somewhat rough, with scarring from old burns across the tips and palms (something she is surprisingly sensitive about), covered in scars and slashes, either from creating weapons or practicing with them.
Her eyes are a pale blue, icy and cold looking. They are generally somewhat dull in appearance, as she is bored easily, but if something manages to spark her attention, they glisten like icicles in sunlight (a fair comparison given her personality). They generally give her a rather stern or cold 'aura' that generally encourages people to avoid her. Her eyes, though pretty, are usually distant and somewhat lifeless - empty.
She wears her blond hair short, barely reaching pass her chin, and it is styled rather sloppily, as she cuts it herself. A large lock of hair on the left side of her head is always bound with a leather tie, for no particular reason. Her hair also has a habit of flopping over and covering about half of her face. She walks with her head held fairly low so this also happens naturally as she slinks about, trying to merely blend in with the crowds.
She isn't a vain person and does not spend any great amount of time on her appearance, because her trade would simply mess it all up, anyways.
Ira is always spotted with her naginata which rested either on her back or over her shoulders. She tends to rest the staff across her shoulders and hook her hand over it, as though she were balancing a bucket of water on either end of it. Be wary of the blade when she carries it like this, because she rarely keeps it sheathed.
Behavioral Characteristics
Personality: Ira works hard when she is on a mission, or particularly when she is forging a new weapon, with a sense of focus and determination that is somewhat frightening - and yet alternately, when she has no assigned work she is lazing about, usually in her hammock, and more often than not she is fast asleep - even at the more inappropriate of times.
Ira is incredibly rough around the edges, and her feathers are rather easy to ruffle, but she is the sort of person that has a very hard time expressing her emotions, so most things that she says/does should be taken with a grain of salt, so to speak. She doesn't generally project a lot of emotion of feelings, and so appears grim, foreboding and cold - these are just her ways of protecting herself from the people that are around her. She has a very hard time allowing people to get close to her, and an equally hard time placing any sort of trust in them.
As such, her personalities often raise questions about her loyalties. She doesn't really show affection for anything or anyone, and so she is often subjected to suspicions and further alienation that drives her further into her shell.
While she does remain sort of morbidly neutral for the better part of her time awake, when she is alone, or at least she believe she is alone or a suitable distance from others, her icy eyes seems almost sad as they gaze off, in thought.
She is a deep, awkward person whom does not know how to accept compliments, similarly she has no idea how to response to them, and even telling someone that they did a good job is very hard for her to say. 'Thank you,' is a foreign phrase, both in terms of receiving and giving.
Ira never really seems content where she is, and is very uncomfortable in crowds or crowded areas. If too many people are standing around in a room then she is the first to sidle out a back door and meander towards a more comfortable location. People scare her, particularly people in great numbers, because it is impossible to tell what their true intentions are, and she has a nagging paranoia/fear that she is being used for her talents in blacksmithing - and thus far no one has proved her suspicions wrong.
In spite of her standoffish-ness and her persistence in avoiding people or certain situations involving them, she also, deep down, is very jealous of other people, and their ability to get attached to one another. She desires people that she can depends on and be close to, she wishes that she could open herself up and blend into the room, as a person not a piece of furniture, but she views this as an impossible goal, and has practically given up on even trying - to make things easier on herself, mind you. Disappointment and failure is somewhat devastating for her, even if she doesn't reflect this on the outside.
Likes:
- Fishing: Ira has been known to tie a length of string to the blunt end of her naginata, recline, relax and wait for a bite. She enjoys the over all serenity of the situation, not to mention the fact that she can catch tasty fish while doing it! Though she has relative ease catching fish, cooking them is an entirely different matter...
- Food: She may not seem the type, but Ira takes great pleasure in eating food, and she is not at all a picky person. She will try anything once, perhaps twice or thrice if she believes she might enjoy it under different circumstances. She is the type of person, whom at a buffet, has to have a taste of everything, even if it means a towering plate. She can be something of a glutton, and usually carries around some sort of food, but the fact that she runs herself ragged everyday prevents it from having any negative effect on her body. She doesn't prefer any one style or type of food to the other, but she does enjoy a well planned meal with all the courses.
- Reading: Well, she mostly enjoys reading about smithing and books related to her favorite weapon, the naginata, she is also known to enjoy the odd mystery novel or horror story.
- Nature: Ira hasn't exactly gotten to spend much time outdoors, so she is particularly fond of being outside, no matter what sort of weather there is around her. Be it sunny or raining, she is content to walk around in it. In fact, she is particularly fond of thunder storms, finding it rather beautiful, the flashes of light in the darkness. Whatever the case, she prefers to be outside now, as it makes her feel free.
Dislikes:
- Enclosed spaces: Ira isn't claustrophobic, per say, but she doesn't like to be jammed in a small space, especially when it comes hand in hand with her second major dislike.
- Crowded Places: She isn't much of a people person, and she doesn't like being crammed close together with a bunch of people. Physical closeness makes her uncomfortable, as well. While it doesn't always happen, she frequently gets overwhelmed when she's over crowded, which causes her to have panic attacks and lose her reason. She gets lost frequently when this happens...
- Insincere People: It annoys the living daylights out of her when people try to deceive her in order to attain something that she has (though what bothers her most is the fact that she was 'stupid' enough to trust them to begin with).
- Strangers: She is obviously pretty hesitant of other people, and is particularly tense around new people, mostly because when she firsts meet people they always put up that front to make a good first impression, and that bothers her. A lot.
Strengths:
- Level headed: Due to her quiet, enclosed nature, she tends to view things from a distance, from a different perspective, and she does not really feel any anger towards anyone. Well, it's actually better to say that she simply forces down any anger that she feels, allowing it to fester and bubble dangerously while she continues to uphold her cold, collect approach.
- Wise: Though she is a girl of few words, she is wise beyond her years (once again she tends to sound cold, but she doesn't really mean anything to be hurtful, even if she is blunt and to the point). She doesn't often offer it, but she can be quite insightful at times.
- Smithing: Her trade, and her skill in it is undeniable. She has excellent perception and imagination when it comes to forging a weapon, and is surprisingly perceptive when it comes to figuring out what other people would desire most in a weapon, as well as what would suit them best.
- Physical Strength: Ira has surprising strength, particularly for a girl. As such, people tend to underestimate her, which ultimately allows her the upper hand.
Weaknesses:
- Panic Attacks: She generally manages to keep her cool, but when she is in a very crowded area (surrounded by strangers that she can't trust and are hesitant to even be around), she can have a panic attack, although it alters her mindset she sort of just stumbles around, trying to keep her balance and forcing her breathing to be relatively normal.
- Lack of faith/trust in others: She has a hard time relying on others, and this reflects very much whenever she is expected to do any sort of teamwork. She is very difficult in this respect, but she doesn't work entirely against her allies, either. Nevertheless this can be a pretty big hindrance, and it often frustrates anyone that tries to get close to her, to the point that they simply give up on her.
- Introverted: Ira is the type of person who will suffer alone. If she is wounded, physically of mentally, or bothered in any way, it is unlikely that she will bring it up without someone probing her with questions. While outwardly strong, her mind is VERY easy to mess with and screw up. it is easy to make her doubt companions that she does not know well, and this uncertainty could prove her own undoing, as it has led her astray many times in the past.
- Unsympathetic: Because of her past, she has a hard time expressing sympathy for others, and it's not even entirely evident that she's even capable of feeling this. When faced with a opponent she is merciless and unforgiving, standing against them with a stern coldness that would give most anyone chills.
Fears:
- Being emotionally hurt (again).
- Her inability to free herself from her own negative feelings and restraints (and similarly she fears what would happen if she were to open herself up a little).
- Clowns, because they remind her of the circus. And also because they are creepy and she has reoccurring nightmares where they maul her to death.

History: Ira was born in the dead of night, when no moon shone and dark cloud spun overhead, casting lightning towards the earth with rumbling thunder that had the more paranoid of people believing that the world itself was ready to split apart and come to a sudden end. It very much reflected her mother's feelings towards her - pure, unrestrained hatred.
It was irrational, perhaps, but she was only a young woman, whom had 'fallen in love' with a much older marine that had promised her the good life - for which she had even abandoned her family, whom, though poor, loved her very much and thought the world of her. An extravagant house, maids and butlers, all the money in the world and all the luxuries that she ever desired. Of course, it was all a lie and he turned out to be a deadbeat, lowlevel marine with no rank and no beli to his name. As if this were not bad enough, he had fled when he discovered that she was with child, leaving the young woman on her own with no means of really taking care of herself, much less a child.
As such, she felt nothing but disdain for Ira, whom she somewhat unwillingly kept at her side. She was cute, certainly, but Ira was expensive, and in the young woman's eyes, the little baby was stealing away money - money that she should be spending on herself, for the things that she wanted! She often cursed the child and her father, for being such burdens to her.
Naturally when Ira began to grow, and with such a low opinion of the girl, she did not really receive any form of kindness of affection. Even so, when she was five she was bright eyed, all smiles and begging for attention from a mother that didn't want anything to do with her. she was yelled at frequently, blamed for things that could not possibly have been her fault, tore to the dirt, told she was unwanted. She merely put on a brave face and continued to smile. Occasionally her mother would attempt to slap that 'stupid' smile off of her face, but this did not work. She would just smile through the pain and the tears swelling in her eyes, because that was all that she could do.
The day eventually came, when that smile disappeared, possibly forever. It had been a day like any other, to start. Ira was now seven. She spent most of her waking time alone at home, waiting patiently for her mother to return. She could take care of herself fairly well, and could even fend for herself somewhat.
This day, her mother came home, and seemed genuinely happy to see her - which while shocking, had more or less been the answer to Ira's prayers. The woman took her hand and told her that they were going to go to the circus. The girl was overjoyed and excited. Together, hand in hand, they headed for the traveling circus, hitching a ride as it was some distance away. The woman paid for their entry, even bought Ira a balloon. She then led Ira into a crowd. In the center of this crowd the woman paused, looking down to the girl with a feigned smile. She told the girl to stay put, and she did just that as the woman released her hand and began to head off.
Ira watched her mother's back intently, staring after her even as she disappeared into the crowd, while people pushed around her to get where they were going.
Here she waited. And waited. And waited. The sky had begun to darken and the crowds dwindled until they were nearly nonexistent. Ira still clung to her balloon, which bobbed about above her head. She looked to it, regarding it almost sadly. She waited for about another half hour, before her grasp on the balloon loosened, until she had released it entirely. Her intent eyes watched as it drifted to the sky, rising higher and higher, until it snagged on one of the tents and popped.
She frowned at this, and turning about, looked at her surroundings. The circus lights were beginning to shut off, and she quickly noticed that someone was approaching her, likely to help, but it was a marine, and all her mother's ranting about them had made her hesitant, and in this exceedingly fragile state she could not help but flee into the night, though he yelled after her and tried to catch her, it was no use. She escaped.
That night she felt a cold that she had never before experienced, and it wasn't simply that the night was cool and breezy, but her heart had finally iced over, shutting it's doors to the world and encasing itself in a protective shell to keep herself from getting hurt so deeply ever again.
Naturally, she couldn't survive the streets on her own, and was eventually plucked off of the streets by the marines, further increasing her dislike of them, as they brought her to a place crueler than the life she had had before being discarded. She was brought into a foster family, in which the parents owned a weapons shop.
One night, while sweeping up and doing the chores that the family's blood child refused to do, and was not forced to do as she was, she decided to try her hand at weapons making. She was roughly ten at this point, having lived with the family for several years, she had often observed as the father made weapons, and had mindlessly picked up some of the techniques.
As it turned out, she had a pure, born talent with metal crafting. When the parents discovered this they were greedily pleased. For the first time value was placed on Ira's life - and she hated every bitter moment of it.
For two years she slaved away, crafting swords and entire sets of armor without complaint, though her hands ached and her body was growing weary, even at such a young age. She remained outwardly apathetic to her own suffering, and inside completely and utterly hateful of her 'providers' - whom really weren't providing anything for her, anymore, as she was doing all of the work, making all of the armor and such. They were merely manning the cash register and taking orders.
There came a time when her craftsmanship had begun to make her a little bit of fame. Men began to come from afar to watch her work, and if they had the coin they would even request she make or upgrade a piece of weaponry that they had, but there eventually came a man that wanted to buy her (well, they used the term 'adopt,' but their intentions and desires were plainly clear). To date, she does not know what this man offered, but the shop owners jaws dropped so swiftly and they accept the offer without question, so she assumes that it must have been a handsome sum.
Thus, at the age of twelve, even more distant and distrusting of the world, she was dragged to an entirely different 'Blue,' where she was to make armor and weapons for a single, greedy man, for the use of him and his guards. Nevertheless, he offered Ira a better life. Anything she wanted, she was granted, to make her happy, to keep her productivity at it's maximum level - but it never granted her happiness. Never did she feel a shred of it during this time, though she was offered any luxuries that she might desire, but she didn't have an eye for such things. At the end of the day, the only thing she wanted was ever unattainable - a sense of belonging. A feeling that she truly mattered, and not simply because of her skills.
She honed her skills in the years to come, and worked without complaint, and with little to say to anyone. Many envied her. Many wanted to take her place, though she was not even allowed to leave the residence, and once again rumors began to spread about her craftsmanship. Dually, she would also practice with the weapons that she made, in demonstrations where she would show off their uses to the men. Before long, her mother had heard all of these rumors, and threw her possessions onto the nearest ship that would take her to her daughter.
For all of the wrong reasons, of course.
Nevertheless, when Ira saw her mother, part of her heart began to fill, if only a little, she thought for a brief instance in time that perhaps it had all been a misunderstanding. Perhaps her mother had really wanted to stay with her? Maybe something had happened to keep her away?
This opened a little hope in Ira, whom for once seemed proud as she showed off her work. A little light had returned to her eyes. She spent some time showing these things off to her mother, whom looked much older and slightly haggard, with her eyes shifting about rapidly. Before long the woman could no longer restrain herself, and asked how much money the girl had, then promptly asked her to share with her 'dear, old mother.'
Ira's chest tightened painfully, and when she tried to explain that she didn't really have any her mother was furious, even slapped for 'lying.' The woman stormed off, placing the final nail in the coffin of Ira's heart, which effectively closed it off entirely. With this, Ira began to gather up her things. She assumed she had long paid of any debt which she owed, and so without guilt or regret (perhaps simply because she was too numb to feeling anything at the time), she departed silently into the night, by crawling out of a second story window and rather calmly walking off of the property without anyone noticing it - well, until the next morning, when the entire town was in an uproar, but she was long gone by then.
Now, Ira merely wanders aimlessly, seeking something that she is unaware that she is even searching for, while trying to leave behind the memories of her past.
